hey!

We have had a couple different topic discussions in our facebook group lately (which you should join if you have not already) and something came to mind today that I wanted to share. How to create beautiful continuity and cohesion in your print collections by batching your motifs.

When painting or drawing your motifs for a small print group or mini collection, try creating ALL of your motifs at once. Create a bit more than you think you might need and really get in there and play with the hand, look/feel and textures. Your creative flow at that moment will pour into that whole group and create beautiful cohesiveness in your group or collection.

Once you have a fair amount of elements lay them all out and see how you feel when you look at everything as a whole. Is there continuity? Do they compliment one another? Is there anything missing? Create a few more if needed and once all motifs and elements are done you can move on to scanning and set ups for your art boards.

promise that even if some of your motifs are flowers, some are paisleys, dots or stripes that the work will feel cohesive which could help boost sales or create a branded look for your portfolio as you might find new ways your style sets you apart.

Give it a try this weekend and let me know how it goes for you!
